, and not just to remember and to mourn, but also to remember the positives and to remember frankly both of these great men and what they contributed to our community. you know, with respect to harvey milk, there will never, ever be another harvey milk in our community in terms of what he represented for our community in terms of a step forward. we are now elected lgbt peep to office and harvey was such an incredible trail blazer, not? in just getting elected, but in being a great leader and always holding his head high for our community. and i know when i was first sworn into office, one of the things that i always kept in mind was something that i understand harvey to have said, * that when you go into city hall, you walk up the central staircase. you don't walk on one of the side staircases because for our community, it is so important for us to walk up that central staircase and for us to be in the middle of everything and for everyone to know that we are here. and all these years later, we've made a lot of strides in the lgbt community, but we still have so much work to do around h

in newtown, connecticut mourning the victims of the connecticut shooting on friday. last night, president obama and the governor of connecticut were among the speakers at a very emotional vigil. now the people are preparing to bury the victims. two funerals are scheduled today. >>> back here in the bay area, a church is planning an interfaith service tonight to reflect on what happened last week. the service will be at 7:00 tonight at first presbyterian church of burlingame. that's at 1500 easton drive. local religious leaders and public school trustees will be there. they will include prayers, readings and expressions of remembrance and hope. >>> about an hour ago, police in newtown, held this news conference with the latest information about that deadly shooting on friday. they just announced that classes at schools in newtown will resume tomorrow with the exception of sandy hook elementary. mup at 7:37. we'll get -- coming up at 7:37, we'll get a live report from newtown, what the community is about to do to honor two young victims. >>> happening now -- workers and volunteers are getti

. for the second time in as many weeks the nfl is mourning the loss of one of its players. the dallas cow likewise josh brent will in court this morning. we're hearing from brent for the first time this morning. abc's clayton sandell has the story. >> reporter: police say that josh brent was speeding down this road when his mercedes crashed, flipped and caught fire. in the passenger seat, his teammate, jeff brown. brent was given and failed field sobriety tests. brown was rushed to a hospital where he died. >> once the officers learned that brown had passed away then mr. price-brent was under arrest for intoxication manslaughter. >> on behalf of josh, a tremendous loss to him. >> reporter: it's not the first time that brent has been charged with drinking and driving. he was arrested in college and sentenced to 60 days behind bars. from his jail cell overnight he released a statement. it's been a tragic week for the nfl. last saturday, kansas city chiefs jovan belcher murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself just hours earlier, police talked to belcher found passed out in his car. >> how are

has proclaimed tomorrow a day of mourning for the victims of the sandy hook elementary school shooting. gun violence is not a suburban issue or an urban issue. it's an american issue. here, in chicago, gun violence is an epidemic. take a look at this map of the city. the yellow dots mark all of the shootings that have taken place in chicago this year alone. the red dots represent people killed by gun violence in 2012. all toll, 465 people have been killed in chicago this year. including 62 school-aged children. all of these murders and mass killings are tragedies. we've had almost segregated response. every child's life should have equal value. yet, too many people have been silent about the murders in places like chicago. the gun debate has been raging for a long time chlts but none of us have done enough. yesterday, the president was asked this question. >> this is not the first issue of horrific gun violence of your four years. where have you been? >> where has he been? where has the congress been? where has everybody been? gun violence wasn't part of the national debate in the pres

voice made her an international star. tonight fans are mourning the death of mexican-american artist genni rivera. the national transportation safety board confirms rivera was killed in a plane crash. she was in a private learjet that disappeared about ten minutes after taking off from monterrey, mexico. the authorities found the wreckage later on the day. no one on board survived. she was at the peak of her career. we'll have much more on her life and music coming up with billie bush of "access hollywood" and nbc latino. >>> we have more information about the murder of a mother shot on a metro butt. police are looking for 27-year-old javon foster, boyfriend of selena brown. police say the bullets grazed her 2-year-old daughter. we're told the baby is recovering in the hospital and expected to be okay. news4's pat collins spoke with the victim's family. >>> today d.c. revealed the possible new color choices for taxi cabs in the city. mayor gray and the taxicab commission want the cabs in d.c. to have the same look. at the convention center, they showed off some of the possible color
